“Approximately one-third of our parishes”
Even with all-out effort by Sacramento bishop and respect life coordinator, most parishes in diocese didn't participate in FOCA postcard campaign
Despite letters and bulletin announcements from the chancery beginning in December 2008, only about a third of the more than 100 parishes in the Diocese of Sacramento participated in the Freedom of Choice Act postcard campaign planned for Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25 -- even though the drive was extended over two months instead of just a single weekend.
In a March 12 memo to all priests of the diocese on the subject “FOCA Postcard Results,” Respect Life Coordinator Kathy Conner expressed her appreciation to parishes that had participated in the campaign “during the last two months.” According to Conner’s memo, posted on the diocesan web site, “Approximately one-third of our parishes set aside a weekend to have a postcard signing event.”
