“I was in the middle of having twins, until...”- Marie-Micah, 26
Dear John,
A
few months ago Marie-Micah Thermistly was giving birth in her one-room
home in the mountains of Côtes-de-Fer, Haiti, with just her husband and
two sons, ages 8 and 6, to help with the delivery.
When Marie-Micah’s second baby would not come out, she was in an
impossible situation – in dire need of immediate care, but with no
health professionals nearby, no vehicle to take her to a hospital, and
no money for an ambulance.
You helped us save the lives of Marie-Micah and her baby.
Her husband called Kerna Cavalier, a CMMB community health worker, who
arranged for emergency transportation to the hospital. Ninety minutes
later, Marie-Micah safely gave birth to her second twin.
Since then, Kerna has been checking in on Marie-Micah and her twins
almost every day. Through your support and courageous workers like
Kerna, Marie-Micah is now equipped with a vegetable garden, goats, aqua
tablets to purify river water for drinking and cooking, vaccinations for
her babies, and hope for the future.
I’ve written to you before about how the current drought in Haiti is affecting vulnerable women and children, often leaving them to go hungry for days.
Will you uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed and send a gift of food, healthcare and clean water for more babies and families? Thank you for being a reflection of God’s mercy for the poor.
