Shocking Allegations By Ex-Abortion Workers

Shocking Allegations By Ex-Abortion Workers Prompt Meeting With NE Attorney General

September 2, 2009
Pro-life groups will hold press conference after the meeting to discuss the next steps in efforts to enforce the law at LeRoy Carhart's seedy abortion business

Lincoln, NE - Representatives from Operation Rescue, Nebraskans United for Life, Rescue the Heartland, and other pro-life groups are scheduled to meet with Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning on Thursday, September 3, 2009, to submit and discuss affidavits that the groups have compiled from former employees of LeRoy Carhart alleging illegal activity at his Bellevue abortion clinic.
The groups will hold a joint press conference after the meeting.
Press conference details:
When: Thursday, September 3, 2009, at 10:30 AM
Where: Steps of the Nebraska Capitol Building located at 2115 State Capitol, Lincoln, NE 68509
The groups filed a formal complaint about alleged illegal and unsafe practices at Carhart abortion business. They were notified by the Nebraska Attorney General's office that the complaint had been forwarded to the Department of Health and Human Services, (NHHS), and that the Attorney General would monitor their investigation.
Once news of the investigation began to spread, former employees began to come forward, telling pro-life groups and the media about their experiences with Carhart, which included allegations that unlicensed workers illegally performed medical tasks, narcotics often came up missing, and that the fetal age of viable babies was being altered so that illegal late-term abortions could be done.
The Omaha World-Herald published a story about the women's allegations.
"The situations described by the brave women who have come forward prove that Mr. Carhart lacks sound medical judgment and is incompetent to continue the practice of medicine," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "The allegations made transcend standard of care issues. They show a pattern of criminal conduct that has endangered the lives and safety of women over a period of several years. Because of this, we felt it was important to meet with the Attorney General's office."
Carhart was responsible for the death of 19-year old Christin Gilbert after a botched third trimester abortion in Kansas. He also has been ordered by the NHHS to stop certain unprofessional conduct such as interrupting abortion procedures to take personal phone calls, falsifying entries on patient charts, and failing to protect his staff and patients from contagious diseases.
"In light of Carhart's nefarious history of endangering women, we call on the Attorney General's office and the Department of Health and Human Services to enforce the law and close Carhart's abortion clinic in the interest of public safety," said Newman.
