Germantown, MD – The pro-life and faith communities of Maryland are appalled that late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart is setting up shop in Germantown, and have committed to respond with action to send Carhart back to Nebraska, where he fled to avoid a new state law banning abortions after 20 weeks.
On Thursday, December 2, 2010, at noon there will be a clergy luncheon featuring Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, to discuss strategy to oppose Carhart’s late-term abortions and activate the faith based community. The luncheon is free to members of the clergy and will be held at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, 16911 Redland Road, Derwood, MD 20855.
Those planning to attend the clergy luncheon are asked to RSVP to sgpcaoffice@comcast.net.
Then on Monday, December 6, 2010, the day Carhart has said he will begin late-term abortions in Maryland, there will be a press conference and two-hour prayer protest on Wisteria near Executive Park Circle beginning at 11:00 am. The public is invited to attend this event.
This is the site of Germantown Reproductive Health Services, an abortion clinic that has hired Carhart to do abortions into the third trimester of pregnancy. This location is expected to be the site of numerous protests and efforts to offer practical help to abortion-bound women in the coming weeks.
“Carhart’s late-term abortion business is looked upon with revulsion by the majority of Americans. He is certainly not welcome in Maryland, Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas, or any other state,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “But unless those who value each and every human life speak out, Carhart and people like him will continue ply their grisly trade with impunity. Starting tomorrow, the silence ends and activism on behalf of the lives of innocent pre-born babies begins. Operation Rescue will continue to expose Carhart and work through all legal means available to run him out of Maryland, just as he has been run out of Nebraska and Kansas.”
“Since the beginning of our nation, God has clearly shone the light of His justice on America. This week that same justice is needed for the most oppressed of all people, innocent pre-born children,” said Rev. Patrick Mahoney. “In Maryland, we will stand united in our fight to end the horror and violence of abortion and establish human rights for all.”
Were there to be no support in the whole history of ethical and moral thought, were there no acknowledged confirmation from medical science, were the history of legal opinion to the contrary, we would still have to conclude on the basis of God's Holy Word that the unborn child is a person in the sight of God. He is protected by the sanctity of life graciously given to each individual by the Creator, Who alone places His image upon man and grants them any right to life which they have.
