Barack Obama Praises Kenya's Draft Constitution Allowing Unlimited Abortions
Nairobi, Kenya (LifeNews.com) -- President Barack Obama has come under fire from pro-life members of Congress for his administration potentially illegally spending as much as $10 million promoting the new pro-abortion constitution in Kenya. Now, in a new interview, Obama himself carefully urged Kenya residents to support it.

Obama officials were thought to have spent $2 million but Rep. Chris Smith says that figure could exceed $10 million.

A new interview conducted Tuesday with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) has Obama actively promoting the constitution, which would have the effect of overturning the nation's pro-life laws that prohibit most abortions.

Although the draft contains language advocating the right to life for unborn children, it contains a section with a health exception that essentially opens the nation to unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason.

The KBC indicated Obama said Kenyans should take advantage of the chance to vote on a new constitution this August and that supporting it would allow Kenya to become an African powerhouse.

He called voting for the document a "singular opportunity to put the government of Kenya on solid footing" and urged Kenyans to"take advantage of the moment." Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Doctors tell FDA Not to Approve New Abortion Drug EllaOne for Sale
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A national organization for pro-life physicians has sent a letter to the Food and Drug Administration urging officials to not approve the abortion drug ellaOne. Abortion advocates bill the drug as a new form of the morning after pill, but it works as an abortion agent by destroying the life of a unique human being.

The abortion drug, also known as ulipristal (but different from the more commonly known RU 486 or mifepristone) is said to be a more powerful version of the Plan B drug.

Backers claim it is able to prevent pregnancy days after conception, the drug only works as an abortion agent because conception will have already taken place.

The letter is the second to the FDA opposing approval of the drug -- following one from Americans United for Life.

In the FDA letter provided to LifeNews.com by American Association of Pro Life Obstetricians & Gynecologists (AAPLOG), the doctors tell the agency that it represents more than 2,000 physicians across the country who oppose ellaOne.

"AAPLOG has concluded from publicly available information that ulipristal acetate is an abortifacient of the same type as mifepristone (RU 486) and that its approval as an emergency contraceptive raises serious health and ethical issues," the letter says. "Furthermore, ulipristal s potential effects on women who used the drug off-label and upon ongoing pregnancies are essentially unexamined and untested." Full story at LifeNews.com

Elena Kagan Calls Judicial Activist Judge Her Judicial Hero, Proudest Association
by Americans United for Life
At an award ceremony held at Harvard Law School in September 2006, Dean Elena Kagan introduced the winner of the annual Peter Gruber Foundation Justice Prize, newly-retired President Aharon Barak of the Supreme Court of Israel. In her remarks, Dean Kagan called Aharon Barak my judicial hero. [1]

The press release issued by the Gruber Foundation announcing the award stated: President Barak is renowned for championing an activist judiciary and the rule of law and democracy. [2]

In her introduction, Ms. Kagan noted there have been many famous and great judges Harvard Law School [has been] associated with.

She named four United States Supreme Court justices and other distinguished alumni of Harvard Law School, whose portraits hang in the Harvard Law School library, including Louis Brandeis, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., William Brennan, and Felix Frankfurter. Then she continued by saying, but the Harvard Law School association of which I am most proud of is the one with President Aharon Barak. [3]

Barak is a judge whose judicial views contradict important features of the American legal system. Full story at LifeNews.com

CNN Hides Poll Showing Strong Opposition to Pro-Abortion Health Care Law
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- CNN is coming under fire for holding back the results of a poll it conducted weeks ago showing strong opposition to the pro-abortion health care law President Barack Obama signed. Not only does the poll show opposition, but had CNN polled likely voters opposition would have been higher.

The survey of over 1,000 adults nationally was conducted two weeks ago, but CNN withheld the health care results until Wednesday.

It released the results of other questions a week ago and appeared to hold the information so it could be released with questions showing more positive polling numbers for Obama, whose approval ratings are at the bottom of the barrel.

According to CNN's poll just 43 percent of Americans are in favor of the health care scheme Obama signed that includes massive abortion funding and rationing concerns. A much higher 56 percent of Americans oppose it, yielding a -13 percent rating.

Ed Morrissey, a conservative writer at HotAir, said a big "question is why CNN chose to hold off the release of this question for almost two weeks."

"A week ago, the news network released data on the immigration law from the same survey. The older the data, the less relevant it is," he explained. "CNN appears to have wanted to pair it with results that showed support for the Obama administration in this case, on financial regulation reform."

Morrissey notices CNN doesn't mention the health care results until the eighth paragraph of its release of the polling data. Full story at LifeNews.com

Intl Planned Parenthood Report: 140M Income, More United Nations Money
New York, NY (LifeNews.com/CFAM) -- The abortion giant, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), has just released its latest financial statement. The report boasts of increased spending on youth programs and a significant increase in funding from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with an overall 20% boost in income as compared to 2008.

In 2009, IPPF raked in a staggering $140 million, the bulk of which came from government grants. Sweden, the United Kingdom and Japan top the organization's list of government donors, accounting for 40% of grant money received.

Grants from foundations and multilateral organizations also grew from the previous year. UNFPA, while it is not one of the organization's largest donors, nearly doubled its contribution to IPPF last year from $783,000 to $1.36 million. The World Health Organization, apparently a new IPPF donor, contributed $15,000 in 2009.

IPPF spent a significant portion of its income on an increased focused on youth, to the tune of $9.9 million dollars more than the previous year. According to the report, a central theme of IPPF s mission is the "provision of high quality and accessible youth friendly sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services." Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Student Group's New Program Trains Future Leaders Against Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Polling data shows the next two generations of Americans are already more receptive to the pro-life perspective than their parents and grandparents. Capitalizing on that, Students for Life of America is launching a new program to train students leaders against abortion.

SFLA is presenting its first-ever pro-life fellowship program dedicated to training the next generation of national pro-life leaders.

The fellowship is named for William Wilberforce, the famed 18th and 19th century British politician and leader of the British slave trade abolition movement.

The Wilberforce Leadership Fellowship will pair up current student pro-life students considering a career in the pro-life movement with national pro-life leaders who will mentor them in the skills they need to become a national pro-life leader. The fellowship will begin in August of 2010 and last for one year.

The mission of the Wilberforce Leadership Fellowship is to raise up the next generation of pro-life leaders, says Kristan Hawkins, the national director of Students for Life of America.

We want to train student pro-life activists to be leaders on campus and beyond by networking those students with their counterparts in the national pro-life movement to help further develop their skills," she told LifeNews.com today. Full story at LifeNews.com

UN Asks Researchers to Hide Maternal Mortality Numbers Discounting Abortion
New York, NY (LifeNews.com/CFAM) -- At a meeting on maternal and child health research in Washington last week, United Nations (UN) staff and abortion advocates told scientists they should harmonize their findings or discuss them in a locked room so that the press could not report maternal death numbers that conflicted with the ones they use to lobby policy makers and major international donors.

Ann Starrs, co-founder and president of the abortion advocacy organization Family Care International (FCI), told a roomful of scientists to lock all the academics in a black box and have them come out with a consensus set of numbers or at least hide that there is disagreement and infighting. FCI is the founder of Women Deliver, which is hosting a massive UN-backed reproductive rights fundraising conference in Washington next week.

The comments were made at a symposium hosted by the University of Washington s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) and the British medical journal, The Lancet.

The journal recently published an IHME study, which refuted the UN-sanctioned but highly controversial figure of 500,000 annual maternal deaths, finding the number to have declined to 342,900 including 60,000 deaths from HIV/AIDS. Full story at LifeNews.com

Study Presented on Autism and Vaccines Using Cells From Babies From Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A controversial study into the possible link between the use of cells form babies victimized by abortions in vaccines and an increase in autism rates was presented late last month to the International Meeting for Autism Research in Philadelphia.

Dr. Theresa Deisher, the founder and lead scientist of the Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute (SCPI), which conducted the study, presented the paper touching on the apparent link found in childhood immunizations with Autism and Austim Spectrum Disorder.

The study, which Deisher said was "met with both shock and gratitude," focused on "improper integration of the residual DNA as a possible contributor to autism, particularly in genetically susceptible infants."

"It is known from gene therapy studies that injected naked DNA can be transported to the brain, that improperly integrated therapeutic DNA has caused cancer in young children, and that shorter DNA fragments have a higher probability of entering the nucleus," Deisher said.

Deisher, along with physicist Marissa LaMadrid, PhD, authored the paper investigating whether improper insertion of DNA into the vaccine recipient cells can cause autism.

"Changepoint analysis of autism disorder demonstrates a temporal correlation with events associated with human DNA residuals in vaccines. The levels of residual DNA are well over FDA-recommended limits", stated Dr. Deisher. Full story at LifeNews.com

Georgia GOP Gubernatorial Candidates Earn Right to Life's Endorsement
Atlanta, GA (LifeNews.com) -- In the Republican primary race to find a GOP nominee to replace outgoing pro-life Governor Sonny Perdue, who is term limited, the statewide pro-life group in Georgia gives its stamp of approval to most of the candidates. The only candidate it expresses reservations about is Karen Handel.

The Georgia Right to Life Political Action Committee told LifeNews.com today it holds political candidates to a very high standard in order to receive its endorsement.

"We live in the 21st century", says Melanie Crozier, political director for the group, "where new biomedical advances bring new challenges that necessitate a new pro-life paradigm. We must protect all human life."

Presently, five of the six Republican gubernatorial candidates enjoy GRTL's endorsement.

That includes State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, who has a very narrow plurality lead in the last poll taken in mid-May at 23 percent.

Congressman Nathan Deal, at 15 percent in the poll, and State Senate President Eric Johnson, at five percent in the poll, also receive the endorsement.

But it does not extend to former Secretary of State Karen Handel, who polls at 14 percent in that survey. Full story at LifeNews.com

British Disabled Group Launches Campaign Against Assisted Suicide, Euthanasia
London, England (LifeNews.com) -- The British disability rights group Not Dead Yet has launched a new campaign against assisted suicide and euthanasia in central London. The group is asking members of Parliament to resist pressure to legalise assisted suicide and euthanasia and protect the rights of the disabled.

Not Dead Yet, a group of disabled and terminally ill people whose concerns have been heightened by the current economic climate and calls from politicians from all parties for cuts in public services, is behind the effort.

The group are asking MPs to sign a seven-point charter asking them to recognize "that disabled and terminally ill people should have the same legal protection as everyone else."

Other points ask MPs to show "a commitment to support disabled and terminally ill constituents to access the health, social and other services that they need" and "a commitment to oppose any change to the current law, which would make assisted suicide legal in the UK."

Not Dead Yet says, "Not one organization of, or for, disabled and terminally ill people has campaigned for any change to current legislation [i.e. to make assisted suicide legal]." Full story at LifeNews.com

Alaska Voters Will Get to Vote on Parental Notification Before Abortion Measure
Juneau, AK (LifeNews.com) -- Alaska voters this August will have the opportunity to vote on a pro-life ballot measure that would allow parents to know when their minor daughters are considering an abortion. If enacted, the law would reduce teen abortions by protecting parental rights to help their children find better alternatives.

The Alaska Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a trial court s finding that petitions for a parental notification initiative do not contain confusing and misleading language and are therefore valid.

The decision means that the parental notification measure will go on the ballot for voter approval during the August 24 primary despite opposition from Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood filed suit to stop the initiative, claiming that the lieutenant governor s summary of the proposed measure contained on the petitions was confusing and misleading.

Kevin Clarkson, an attorney affiliated with the pro-life legal group Alliance Defense Fund successfully argued against Planned Parenthood s claims on behalf of the Alaska Family Council, the primary supporter of the initiative.

A minor child s well being is worth more than Planned Parenthood s bottom line, said Clarkson. Full story at LifeNews.com
