CMMB: Your Weekly Reflection in Prayer [Mother's Day]

Weekly prayer reflection

“Let us love one another, because love is from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

1 John 4:7-8

Mother's Day
Dear Friends,
Some claim that the highest revelation of God in the Scriptures is the simple phrase we have just read:  “God is love.” We see this clearly in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But do we not also see it clearly in the love shown everyday by our mothers?
There is the familiar Jewish proverb:  “God could not be everywhere, so He created mothers.” Today we recall, remember, and celebrate all that our mothers have done. In giving birth, they share in God’s life-giving power. In raising the family, they share in the self-sacrificing love of God.
May we continue to be grateful sons and daughters. May God bless our mothers with the graces needed to be the clearest sign of His love in our world.

Good and Gentle God, we pray in gratitude for our mothers and for all the women of history who have joined with You in the wonder of bringing forth new life. You who became human through a woman, grant to all mothers the courage they need to face the uncertain future that life with children always brings.
Give them the strength to live and to be loved in return. Give them the faithful support of their husband, family and friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children. Give them joy and delight in their children to sustain them through the trials of motherhood. Most of all, give them the wisdom to turn to You for help when they need it most.
Amen
