Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,
United Nations a Pro-life Victory: The RIO20 United Nation Conference on Sustainable Development has finished with a notable pro-life success. A continuing major effort was made for many months to insert anti-life measures including abortion and population control, under the guides of so called "reproductive rights" or "reproductive health services." The pro-life leaders fought this vigorously and in the end excluded those phrases. The group of countries that carried the day included the Holy See, Russia, Poland and several Latin America countries.

Swiss Assisted-Suicide Skyrockets: In the last five years assisted-suicide in Switzerland has increased by sixty percent. This demonstrates that a radical individualism and killing as an acceptable answer to suffering. If once accepted, there really are no limits on society's adoption of killing as an answer to problems.

Canada Assisted-Suicide Ban Struck Down: The British Columbia Supreme Court has issued an opinion which declares that a law in Canada against assisted-suicide was unconstitutional. The opinion stated that because suicide itself is not illegal, assisted-suicide should not be illegal either. It states that disabled people have the same right to kill themselves and in the same way as any able-bodied person does.
God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(A baby fills your LIFE) "Family is a wonderful thing. It doesn't mean that you can't do other stuff with your life. In fact, having a family makes things you have that much richer. It's much nicer to share it with people you love." - Actor Ben Affleck.

(Abortion): "Planned Parenthood deceptive, manipulative abortion SALES PITCH" -  An undercover video reveals medically inaccurate abortion counseling at a tax-funded Milwaukee Planned Parenthood clinic. The video, released by youth-led pro-life group Live Action, records Planned Parenthood staff distorting basic facts of fetal development and pressuring a woman to have an abortion.

ITEM #1: Burmese Refugees Face Discrimination, Human Trafficking

Thousands of Rohingya are fleeing Burma and seeking refuge in Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Thailand only to find themselves persecuted, trafficked, or homeless. Blatant segregation and discrimination against the Rohingya has occurred since Burma's independence in the late 1940s, but recent tension between Buddhist and Muslim groups has led to an ever-increasing exodus of Rohingya to neighboring nations.

****************************************

ITEM #2: Contraception as Faux Healthcare

Froma Harrop, the author of the editorial, stated she was looking forward to 2040, as "we won't be debating anymore whether birth control belongs in a basic health plan." Similar to Melinda Gates who believes contraception is a basic human right, or Sandra Fluke who equates tax-payer provided contraception with leukemia coverage, Harrop never provides an appropriate definition of healthcare.

****************************************

ITEM #3: Chastity: A Pro-Life Virtue

Our actions against new life, such as the use of contraceptive pills, condoms, and surgical sterilizations, send this message to the newly conceived person: we do not want you to exist because you will interfere with finances, desires for more things, or a career.

****************************************

ITEM #4: Poll: Voters would approve of ban on 'sex-selective' abortions

The Lozier Institute poll says that 77 percent of respondents would support a law banning abortion in cases where "the fact that the developing baby is a girl is the sole reason for seeking an abortion."

****************************************

ITEM #5: People with mental problems deserve respect not isolation

In Korea, when people consult mental health practicioners or get a prescription from a mental hospital, it can result in various forms of discrimination. Patients might be refused private health insurance, can be barred from jobs in public office and cannot be a doctor, nurse, pilot or dietitian. Mental health patients cannot get a driver's license.

****************************************

ITEM #6: Honoring the 'Courage' of Fatherhood
Even as TV and other aspects of pop culture belittle or ignore the importance of fathers, though, America's parents, educators and other cultural leaders should explain why dads are so invaluable.
****************************************

ITEM #7 Is There a Conservative Argument for Gay Marriage?
There is a small but steadily growing idea among conservatives that they can support gay marriage and remain conservative. My position is that this is not possible. Here's why.

****************************************

ITEM #8: They Said 'No!': What happened when 12 nurses refused to participate in abortions
Nurses in a big city hospital never know what a day's shift will bring - straightforward cases or medical miracles, major crises or minor first aid. Whatever her station, whatever the duty of the moment, a nurse tries to ready herself for anything. But some things, you just can't see coming.

****************************************

ITEM #9: It Was Never About "Choice" Anyway

Its time to stop using misleading rhetoric about "choice." Planned Parenthood suggests that we instead look at women's individual stories and consider that most abortions take place under extremely  difficult circumstances. Unfortunately for the abortion lobby, taking a closer look isn't likely to lead to the conclusion that abortion is an empowering solution for women.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Empower Women, Not the State

The final advantages to the approach of empowering the woman is that it would force abortion advocates to reveal their real agenda - disempowering women in order to achieve their own financial, social, or political ends. It would turn the tables, clearly showing that it is the abortion advocates, not the pro-lifers, who are hell-bent on imposing their values on women.
****************************************
ITEM #11: Preaching About Pornography and Addiction
Because the slavery and pain of our flocks is obvious, we are called upon to offer the grace and healing of Christ. The pulpit can be an excellent platform for entreating even the most stained and hopeless heart.
****************************************ITEM #12: Should children and incompetent persons be euthanized in Belgium?
The AFP has reported that the Belgian legislators are debating extending euthanasia to Children, primarily newborns with disabilities and incompetent people with Alzheimers disease or dementia. Recent studies on the practise of the Belgian euthanasia law have found that: 32% of all assisted deaths, in the Flanders region of Belgium, were done without consent, Nurses are killing patients by assisted death, even though the law clearly prohibits nurses from doing it.
