Lifeissues Newsletter #643

Dear Friends for Life,
Redefining marriage is the latest item on the slippery slope found in the Culture of Death

The truth is marriage has been defined by our human nature and so cannot be redefined. The politicians' futile attempts to put their stamp on it means nothing. They cannot redefine gravity, time and the laws governing chemical reactions and they sure cannot change the fact that the two genders that exist in our nature make marriage possible. Not only possible for absolutely essential for our very existence. -

(The Difference is LIFE) "To me nuclear weapons and abortion were perfect bookends, symmetrical images of each other. They both involved a frank commitment to targeting innocent targets, and they both depended on the calculated willingness to destroy them deliberately. ... The two issues struck me as being so absolute they set up a kind of a north and south pole, a whole magnetic force that drew in a lot of other issues because of the clarity of those two." - Julianne Wiley.

(Life): "Video: Abortion-Premature Birth Link is Settled Science"Here is a superb video exposing the link between induced abortion and increased risk of premature birth in later pregnancies due to damage during the abortion procedure or infection. The Institute of Medicine and 134 studies link abortion with subsequent premature birth. It is settled science. Premature birth puts babies at risk for mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, blindness and deafness. Premature birth before 32 weeks gestation puts women at increased risk for breast cancer, for the same biological reasons that induced abortion raises risk. The hormonal changes that take place in the breasts are identical. The breasts are left with more places for cancers to start.

ITEM #1: What Are the Rights of Donor-Conceived People?

What are the rights of donor-conceived people? To ask this question is to suggest that we have different rights from everyone else-and so we do, because we've allowed it.We've created a class of people who are manufactured, and treat them as less-than-fully human, demanding that they be grateful for whatever circumstances we give them.

ITEM #2:
Designing for a 'better' baby?

Designer babies, once a topic for science fiction, are now closer to reality. But there are serious questions about ethics and moral principles.

ITEM #3:   Low birthrate could slash South Korea's youth population in half by 2060: report

South Korea's low birthrate means the size of its youth population - those aged between 9 and 24 - will be slashed in half by 2060, a government report warned Monday.

ITEM #4: Report Shows Huge IVF Failure: 3.8 Million Embryos Produce Just 122,000 Babies

If you agree with today's doctors that early human life can be treated as a disposable commodity then the figures that Lord Alton has uncovered (not much short of the current population of New Zealand!) will probably not bother you much at all. But if, like me, you believe that they are special creations made in God's image, which should be granted respect, wonder, empathy and protection you will no doubt be very concerned indeed.

ITEM #5: Euthanasia: The right to die can so easily become the duty to die

Euthanasia (being killed by a doctor) and assisted suicide (being helped to kill oneself) are illegal for good reason.
****************************************
ITEM #6: Assisted Suicide: Pushing Death for Parents Instead of Care, Compassion
Comment: I've had to deal with such families that asked - or even insisted - that I give their loved one a lethal overdose. A few were concerned about their loved one but mistakenly confused debilitation/disability or reduced level of consciousness with suffering. When dealt with compassionately, these family members changed their minds and even thanked us afterward for the dignified, natural death of their loved ones. Some were belligerent like the brother of a terminally ill woman who insisted that we overdose his sister when she lost consciousness. Ironically, the sister had previously told me to call her close friend instead of her brother when she took a turn for the worse. She trusted her friend but not her brother. Some were bizarre. I found one family member crimping his mother's oxygen tube. He didn't know that this wouldn't kill his mom or speed her death. There wasn't much we could do except report the incident to the hospital authorities and watch the family members. This idea of family assisted suicide is so misguided. Some family members may think they are being compassionate but killing or trying to kill people must not be kept "very private". At the very least, family members who kill should explain themselves in a court of law, be ready to accept the consequences of their actions including denail of life insurance benefits. And all this should be covered by an unbiased media. -Nancy Valko, RN

ITEM #7 Scholar: Liberals, Feminists Have Made Men Afraid to Embrace Their Manhood
"I want the men listening … to embrace your manhood," Morse said. "Do not be ashamed. … There’s nothing wrong with being a man. That’s what we need from you. We need those who will take responsibility for protecting the weak and will sustain the family. There’s nothing to be ashamed of."
****************************************

ITEM #8: Scary Brave New World: Here Come Woman Fathers and Male Mothers

Have you noticed that we develop new biotechnologies these days for health issues, but they mostly become used for lifestyle facilitation? That's what will happen if research in mice - that turned skin cells into both sperm and eggs and later used to create live mouse births, finds human application.

ITEM #9: Bolivian bishops declare pro-abortion legislators should not receive Communion

The bishop's answer was: "Those four ministers can act conscientiously; they will never be expelled from any church, but they wouldn't have to come forward to receive communion, to receive Christ's body."

ITEM #10: Teen Sex Sleepovers: The Latest Fad in Immoral Sex Education

Comment: I just read another article advocating the same thing. Apparently, sex sleepovers for teens are becoming an open fad. I remember when my youngest daughter told me about a friend who complained that her mother forced her to get birth control pills at 15. This girl was scared and reluctant but ultimately acquiesced. Then her mother set up the girl's first sexual experience in her home so that it would be "good." Personally, I would characterize this mother's actions as a form of child abuse. Now, many years after, this young girl has grown up having multiple affairs and a negative attitude about life in general. She is a sad casualty of this sexual experiment. So is her mom who divorced her dad and now lives with another man. -Nancy Valko, RN

ITEM #11: Changing the CHANNEL
Methuselah himself might have struggled to win a place at one of Beijing's most popular old people's homes: the waiting list is currently 100 years long.
****************************************
ITEM #12: Palliative Leaders Want Electronic Health Records to Collect and Record Personal Data on Goals and Core Values
What data will be on your electronic health care records (EHRs) in the future? Your visits to the doctor? Diagnosis of your ailments? Your medications? Think again. Changes are coming to the "standard" content of EHRs, thanks to the "third path" euthanasia movement.
