Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends for Life,
It is becoming a sad period in history this year. The atheists are on the war path. The heart, soul and meaning of CHRISTmas - Christ - is being thrown out by the voice of a small minority. I wonder why the large majority of CHRISTians in the United States do not vehemently oppose this and stand up for our constitutional right to freely express our Catholic faith. The following article is worth reading and give some serious thought to what is happening not only in this city but over the entire country and even worldwide. Isn't it about time we take a strong stand and defend what is really important in our lives - the Birth of Jesus Christ and its deep implication it has for our happiness and salvation.

Update: The Latest In The 'War On Christmas'

No matter how many challenges we face in our society, we, as Christians, should be encouraged during the Christmas season. We believe that Christ brings a real hope of salvation and eternal life. We believe that a baby was born in Bethlehem. We believe that this baby will save us from the clutches of evil, regardless of how large the opposition. This hope never waivers regardless of our surrounding circumstances. We draw strenght from this baby who was born in a manger and of Mary's "Yes!" to life. Life is beautiful. Christ's Love for us is a reality. We also say "Yes!" to life with our Blessed Mother, for to gain everlasting life, we truly must love our neighbor as ourselves. "Yes" - even our unborn neighbors. In this Spirit of CHRISTmas Himself, I wish you all much joy and happiness.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Life): "New Carol Replies to War on Christmas""Christmas," a new carol, tackles the issues of the "war on Christmas" by reminding a contention-weary culture the real reasons why the day is celebrated.

"With the season of attacks on Christmas upon us, I believe this song is what people of good will are looking for this Christmas," says the song's singer and writer, Hilary Clay Hicks.

"It answers the mean-spiritedness of the attempts of some to intimidate public schools and governments into banning Christmas music and public festivities by covering the whole of the family Christmas experience, from the cultural to the spiritual, with special attention to children," says Hicks. "It warmly celebrates family traditions and the reason for the season."

ITEM #1: Marriage and abortion are economic issues

WPolitical discussions commonly assume there are two separate sets of issues. There's a social agenda - issues like abortion and marriage. And there's an economic agenda - issues like federal spending, debt, taxes, and government programs like entitlements. It's usually assumed that these two agendas don't have anything to do with each other. But it's simply false that we can consider the challenges of our federal budget without thinking about the state of the American family, our birthrates and abortion.

ITEM #2:
Pope Tells America: Reject Abortion And Accept Life At Every Stage

2013 - Is it not time for the Catholic Church to use accurate terminology when referring to the beginning of human life? -->eg. This is not accurate: "from the mother’s womb to old age". As my good friend Dianne Irving Ph.D. states very accurately: "Is the Pope now infallible in the area of science? So human life now begins “in the womb”? So then the use of abortifacients is OK, and all human embryos outside the womb are not human beings and thus can be destroyed in research?" -Editor (Fr. Jerry Novotny, OMI).

ITEM #3: Chinese exile launches fourth book about AIDS epidemic in China

Yaojie, an exiled Chinese obstetrician who has dedicated herself to exposing the problem of HIV/AIDS caused by blood-selling in  has published her fourth book on the health crisis and chose Taipei to hold the book launch

ITEM #4: Effort to Help Filipino Women Falters, U.N. Says

A new effort to protect women from rape and help them deliver babies in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines remains troubled and inadequate, the United Nations and international aid groups said this week.

****************************************

ITEM #5: Euthanasia 'fundamentally selfish'

The vast majority of physicians do not want to be involved in killing people or in helping them to kill themselves. To require them to do so is to change the primary meaning of medicine as a healing profession. It is fundamentally dishonest to present killing as an act of therapy or healing.

ITEM #6: Having “Only” One
We are living the dream – at least the dream according to the secular mind. We only have one child. Not by choice, mind you; we would love to have more and didn’t expect to end up with just one.

****************************************

ITEM #7 Letter: We need more palliative care spaces and training programs
I am writing in support of Dr. Manuel Borod and other doctors like him who have come forward to express opposition to Bill 52 as it has been presented. I feel these doctors need to be supported in their desire to be faithful to their oath of “doing no harm” in their medical practice.

ITEM #8: Euthanasia in Belgium: Safeguards and controls do not work
At a press conference, Prof. Dr. Etienne Montero, Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Namur, Belgium, gave an overview of 11 years of euthanasia in Belgium. The proponents of euthanasia in Belgium  recognize that most requests for euthanasia are not rooted in physical pain, which can be controlled, but in psychological suffering.

ITEM #9: Inside the teenage mind: Sex, school and social media

The transition from childhood to adulthood has never been easy. This is the time to rebel, discover love, ponder the future and watch your body change. But today’s teenagers are facing many issues their parents couldn’t imagine, with social media changing the game in dramatic ways.

ITEM #10: Sex 'Addiction' Isn't a Guy Thing

Lack of research and knowledge about female hypersexuality stem from the double standard that men always want sex and women never do. Some women instead refer to their condition as "love addiction" or "relationship addiction."

ITEM #11: Couple Rejects Abortion, Chooses Life for All Their Quintuplets
"We were in total, complete shock and a little bit of denial," Rachelle Wilkinson told NRL News. While they had undergone fertility treatments, they never expected quintuplets. Immediately, however, doctors recommended "selective reduction," aborting three of the babies to improve the odds of survival for one set of twins. "They told us that all five would die, or if they lived they’d have lifelong disabilities," Mrs. Wilkinson said. "All the medical authorities were telling us one thing while our hearts and minds were telling us something else."

ITEM #12: Deaths will outnumber births in Spain by 2017, experts say
The Catholic kingdom of Spain once ruled the sea but demographers are warning that if current birth trends continue, Spain as we know it will gradually be washed away. If population trends continue apace, researchers say that Spain will cross the line to a nation that is literally dying, with the number of deaths outweighing births.
