ANNAPOLIS, Md., April 6, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- A new project will be launched by the Maryland Coalition for Life on April 10th, called "Abortion Free Anne Arundel." To kickoff the new initiative, a large peaceful Prayer Vigil will be held 8 - 9am on the Tuesday following Easter in front of the Annapolis office of Planned Parenthood, which is the last free-standing abortion center in Annapolis and in all of Anne Arundel County. The Vigil will follow the example of the highly successful, international 40 Days for Life campaign.

The on-going effort will include regular and recurring church-sponsored vigils on days that abortions are performed, as well as prayer services on the front porch and front lawn of the Annapolis Pregnancy Center, which is directly across the street from the abortion provider.

"There are roughly 200,000 self-professed Christians and nearly 300 churches in Anne Arundel County, and only 1 abortion provider," said Michael Martelli, Executive Director of the Maryland Coalition for life. "Abortion is a spiritual battle, not a political issue. So as soon as the full Body of Christ comes together in prayer and action, and says it's time for abortion to end -- it will end. That is the aim of this new initiative -- to end abortion in Anne Arundel County for good, and then move on to the other counties in Maryland, until our great state is abortion free."

Representatives from several pro-life organizations and local churches of various denominations are already involved in the new project and have participated in the planning of this new county-wide initiative. The coalition of churches, organizations, and citizens is growing by the day.
