CMMB: Your Weekly Reflection in Prayer 5/5/2013

Weekly Prayer Reflection for Summer

"It has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to impose on you no further burden than these essentials..."

Acts of the Apostles 15:28

May 5, 2013
Sixth Sunday of Easter

Dear Friends,
There is the story of the two farmers. One praises the other for his wonderful field of corn, saying, "What a great field of corn the Lord has given you." The other replied, "Thank you for the compliment, but you should have seen the field when the Lord had it alone!" The point is that human cooperation is all important. God expects us to cooperate with Him in making a better cornfield, a better world.

That is why I like this verse from the Acts: "It has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to impose on you no further burden than these essentials…" The Spirit is very close to us – in fact inseparable from us when we are doing good, whether that is clearing and planting a corn field or assisting a neighbor in need. It is our joy, our privilege and in fact our salvation to cooperate with the Holy Spirit working within us.

Almighty and Holy Spirit, the Comforter, pure, living and true - illuminate, govern, sanctify me, and confirm my heart and mind in the faith. Preserve and rule over me that dwelling in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, I may be and remain forever in the temple of the Lord, and praise Him with a joyful spirit.
Amen
