Great news to end the year!

40days2

Dear Deacon,

I wasn't planning to send you a message today, but late
last night I couldn't go to sleep after reading some
GREAT news -- so I thought I'd share it with you to mark
the end of 2011, and to look forward to whatever great
things God has in store in 2012!

Ever since first getting involved in pro-life efforts in
1998 -- when Planned Parenthood announced plans to build
an abortion facility in my town -- one thing that has
always been a bit disheartening for me is when Planned
Parenthood releases its annual report.

Year after year, despite the best efforts of the
pro-life movement, Planned Parenthood's abortion numbers
and revenue dollars have continued to go up and up ...

... UNTIL NOW.

The abortion giant just released the annual report for
its last fiscal year (2009-2010) and these numbers have
FINALLY begun to decline!

Here are the stats ...

Abortions at Planned Parenthood:
 * 2009: 331,796
 * DOWN in 2010: 329,445

Planned Parenthood Total Revenue (income):
 * 2009: $1.10 Billion
 * DOWN in 2010: $1.04 Billion

Now, I realize that these are not huge declines -- and
the abortion numbers still demonstrate a STAGGERING loss
of life -- but the tide has begun to turn.

And these numbers were from BEFORE 2011, a year the
abortion chain's president, Cecile Richards, just
described to abortion advocates as "the most difficult
year in our history."

40 Days for Life campaigns have been conducted outside
of more than 135 Planned Parenthood facilities this fall
alone, and it is clear that your prayers and faithful
efforts ARE paying off.

Let's commit to build on this momentum in 2012!

Know how much I appreciate you, Deacon. Hope you
and your family have a blessed New Year.

For Life,

David Bereit
National Director

New NH law puts limits on girls' abortions; minors must tell parents

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 08:00 AM PST

Starting with the New Year, pregnant girls seeking abortions must tell their parents or get a judge's OK under a requirement reinstated by conservative Republicans over a gubernatorial veto.

Abortion clinic in Texas performed Christmas Eve abortions

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 07:39 AM PST

Who would work in an abortion clinic on Christmas Eve? Who would schedule her child to be aborted on Christmas Eve? Surely, even non-Christians can recognize this day as holy to others. But for the abortion industry the day-to-day business of scheduled, purchased death, there are few holidays.

2010: Planned Parenthood aborted 10 times the number of babies they helped

A new annual report the Planned Parenthood abortion business released this week shows it helped fewer pregnant women with prenatal care and the number of pregnant women it referred for adoptions declined as well.

Will a Santorum surprise in Iowa upset the GOP primary?

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 07:00 AM PST

I have heard it before; it happens every four years. They say "Do not insist on the "social" issues, just trust the Republicans". Translated - trust the establishment Republicans. Another refrain is, "just elect them to office and they will be better than the Democrats".

The abortion industry's greatest hits in 2011

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 07:00 AM PST

I think many will agree with me that 2011 was a pivotal year for the pro-life movement. Let’s take a moment to look back at some of the hits the abortion industry suffered during 2011:

Desperate measures: IVF yields a 54-year old first-time mom

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 03:32 AM PST

Desperate for a baby at any cost, no matter how morally reprehensible, Anh-Hoh Le cashed in her retirement investments and had IVF in America, before coming home to have her son delivered in Melbourne on September 30, 2009.

Staggering abortion rate among UK's teenagers

Data released by a European research group has revealed how European countries compare with respect to teen abortion rates.

A previous study conducted by the group “REPROSTAT 2” analysed abortion rates among girls ages 13-19 in 25 European countries and the findings have placed the UK under fire.

The UK had the second highest teen abortion rates at a rate of 22.1 per cent, and it has also been reported that a quarter of all abortions in the UK are from teenagers, according to Mail Online.

Interestingly, Greece, which shares similar abortion laws to the UK, had the lowest teen abortion rates with a rate of only 4.1 per cent.

Despite the low teen abortion rates in Greece, research shows that overall abortion remains relatively high throughout the nation. Some argue that overall abortion rates in Greece can be attributed to the Greek Orthodox Religion, which critics say does not strongly condemn abortion.

Planned Parenthood Helps Fewer Pregnant Woman, Adoptions Drope
A new annual report the Planned Parenthood abortion business released this week shows it helped fewer pregnant women with prenatal care and the number of pregnant women it referred for adoptions declined as well.

On December 27, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) released its latest Annual Report for 2009-2010. The report indicates PPFA had a total budget of $1.04 billion and an excess of revenue over expenses of 18.5 million dollars a net profit. The new report also reveals 46 percent of the total PPFA budget comes from taxpayer dollars in the form of government funding.

The report also breaks down the services Planned Parenthood offers in addition to abortions. Planned Parenthood has always come under fire from pro-life groups for doing hundreds of thousands of abortions by providing little in the way of help for pregnant woman wanting to keep their baby or considering adoption. The new report shows that hasn t changed.

The new document the abortion organization posted shows Planned Parenthood did 329,445 abortions in 2010 while it provided prenatal care to only 31,098 women and referred only 841 women to adoption agencies. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/planned-parenthood-helps-fewer-pregnant-woman-adoptions-drop/

Abortion Practitioner Charged With Murder Had Sordid Past
The two abortion practitioners who have been charged with murder for doing late-term abortions in the state of Maryland had long, sordid pasts including brushes with the law and putting women s health at risk.

Steven Chase Brigham and Nicola Irene Riley have been charged with murder related to the deaths of viable babies at an illegal secret abortion clinic that the pair operated in Elkton, Maryland. Brigham is currently in the custody at the Camden County Jail in New Jersey and Riley was arrested and is currently in the custody of the Salt Lake County Jail in Utah. Both are awaiting extradition to Maryland.

Brigham was charged with five counts of first-degree murder and five counts of second-degree murder. Riley was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder. The charges are the result of a Grand Jury investigation.

While late-term abortions are not illegal in Maryland, those who kill viable babies killed in the commission of crimes can be charged with murder in that state. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/abortion-practitioner-charged-with-murder-had-sordid-past/

Planned Parenthood Report: $1B Group Gets 46% From Tax Money
Planned Parenthood has released its new annual report and the figures show the abortion business continues to make money despite its status as a nonprofit organization and it receives almost half of its income from taxpayer dollars.

On December 27, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) released its latest Annual Report for 2009-2010. The report indicates PPFA had a total budget of $1.04 billion and an excess of revenue over expenses of 18.5 million dollars a net profit.

The abortion business reports $513 million in current assets and $570 million in property, equipment and an endowment while showing $184 million in liabilities for buildings and other debts.

The new report also reveals 46 percent of the total PPFA budget comes from taxpayer dollars in the form of government funding. At the same time, just 21 percent of the income the abortion business brings in comes from private donors (it lists 528,000 active donors) while 31 percent of its revenue is derived from abortions non-government health services revenue. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/planned-parenthood-report-1b-group-gets-46-from-tax-money/

Don t Believe Misleading Attacks on Romney s Abortion Record
AFirst, we all know Mitt Romney is a convert on the life issue, so his record prior to that conversion is checkered, at best.

Second, it s beyond dispute that Mitt s record in office on life issues was far, far better than, say, Ronald Reagan s before he became president. (Mitt vetoed pro-abortion legislation and won an award from his state s most prominent pro-life advocacy group; Governor Reagan signed into law one of the nation s most liberal abortion laws pre-Roe). Third, Mitt has issued a very specific pro-life pledge that addresses every single major plank of the pro-life platform. Fourth, it s clear that the Left views Mitt s conversion as genuine: NARAL has targeted himabove other Republican presidential candidates. Mitt is pro-life, and he ll be a pro-life president. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/don%E2%80%99t-believe-misleading-attacks-on-romneys-abortion-record/

The Abortion Industry s Greatest Hits in 2011
I think many will agree with me that 2011 was a pivotal year for the pro-life movement. Let s take a moment to look back at some of the hits the abortion industry suffered during 2011e.

http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/the-abortion-industrys-greatest-hits-in-2011/

Survivors of Abortion Are Changing Hearts and Minds
I m guessing that, based on the title of this post, you think I m going to talk about photographs of aborted children. Nope. I m going to talk about the living faces of aborted children. They wield an incredible power all their own.

Take Alex for example. When she was only three years old, she heard her mom talking on TV about how she had had an abortion. At her extremely young and tender age, Alex understood enough to ask her mother why she had killed her brother or sister but not her. Today, Alex and her mother are pro-life speakers who spread the message of hope, love, and life for all babies. Alex is a living face for aborted children. She is a survivor. She could have been aborted.

My own mom is another example. My grandmother has publicly stated that she became pregnant with my mom by a man who date raped her. Although she gave birth to my mom, she had an abortion with my mom s only fully biological sibling. Later, my grandmother had two sons, my mom s half-brothers, but aborted the child she conceived after them. Today, my grandmother regrets her abortions and donates to the pro-life cause. My mom and her brothers are living faces for aborted children. It could have been them. They lost siblings to the horror that is abortion. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/survivors-of-abortion-are-changing-hearts-and-minds/

2011: Year of Liberation From the Stranglehold of Abortion
This has been a year of liberation. The abortion industry has been challenged, like never before, by women and men passionate about protecting all life.

The Radiance Foundation, a nonprofit founded by my wife Bethany and I, is one of many dedicated life-affirming organizations fighting this David versus Goliath battle. So many people ask us in our events on college campuses, in churches, at conferences, and even in community outreaches how they can get involved. Often, the mindset is that one has to be connected to a big organization or have lots of financial undergirding to make an impact.

Reaching someone s heart simply takes passion. Changing that heart is God s forte. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/2011-year-of-liberation-from-the-stranglehold-of-abortion/

Planned Parenthood Leaders Say 2011 Was Worst Year Ever
To say that 2011 has been a watershed year in the battle against Planned Parenthood is an understatement. This has been a year that has seen the effort to close down Planned Parenthood escalate to new and successful heights. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/planned-parenthood-leaders-say-2011-was-worst-year-ever/

Clinic in Austin, Texas Did Abortions on Christmas Eve

New Year s Resolution: 10 Pro-Life Things You Can Do in 2012
Every year, people make New Year s resolutions for things like quitting smoking, losing weight, exercising more, eating right and so on. While I certainly support all of these types of resolutions (even if they are not kept), I wanted to challenge everyone to some resolutions that can help end the abortion holocaust. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/new-years-resolution-10-pro-life-things-you-can-do-in-2012/

How Pro-Life People Should Respond to Pro-Abortion Hate
I write for a pretty large audience about a very divisive topic, so I get quite a bit of negative feedback in the form of comments, e-mails, tweets, and Facebook messages. I don t read all of it, or even most of it. Some of what I do see is constructive and interesting, but enough of it is not that I usually just skim over it. Sometimes people call me names or question my intelligence, motives, or talent as a writer. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/30/how-pro-life-people-should-respond-to-pro-abortion-hate/

JOHN SMEATON, SPUC DIRECTOR

Friday, 29 December 2011

"I begged and danced for the approval of my mother who tried to abort me"

On Wednesday I had the privilege of speaking at a pro-life march in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Over recent decades, anti-life policies have resulted in the killing by abortion of more than 6 million Hungarians, and thus deeply damaged many millions of families. Pro-lifers in Hungary chose the feast-day of the Holy Innocents to name the children lost and toll bells in their memory.

At least one Hungarian, by the grace of God and by the strong intervention of his father, survived the abortion intended for him. He is my host, Dr Imre Taglasy, the director of Human Life International (Hungary) who took such good care of me when a bone got stuck in my throat on my first day in Budapest. He and I are pictured above in Budapest, after the march.

Here, in his own words, is his deeply moving story:

I begin my story with my family, and especially with my father, who was a major in Hungary till the end of the Second World War. As a professional soldier with his religious conviction (he was born in a Catholic family of eight children) he was declared a class-enemy of the new Communist regime and was sacked at once and removed with his wife and two sons from Budapest to the Great Hungarian Plain (puszta). They were ordered not to leave their dwelling place. He could hardly find the most basic job ... he and his family were starving.

In this sad plight my father's wife realized she was pregnant. My father tried to protect me, but my mother did not want to carry me to term. But it was not so simple to get rid of an unborn baby in the early '50s ... so she asked my grandfather staying in the capital to get a doctor who would be willing to perform the abortion. He found such a doctor in Budapest but class enemies were not allowed to leave the plain (puszta), so while my father was absent she tried to cause an abortion by jumping down from a kitchen table; when that failed she took very hot baths in a tub but they were not successful either. Then she got a lot of quinine pills from her brother. She took them but they were not sufficient to cause a miscarriage so I was born.

I heard the story of my birth accidentally when I was 11 years old and when my father and I were staying in Yugoslavia with relatives. It was late at night and I had gone to bed in the room in which my father and my relatives were talking.

At that time my parents had already divorced and one of my relatives asked my father why. Thinking I was asleep, my father told him the story.

As I lay there in bed, neither a small child nor an adult, I cried, speechlessly, all night long into my pillow. I experienced an emotional earthquake. I felt good myself and I did not know why my mother had tried to kill me at all.

I am still looking for the answer which is perhaps blowing with the wind, since she died some years ago.

There are two different expressions in our Hungarian language concerning "mother". One of them ("edesanya") is connected with "sweetness" meaning that the sweetness of a loving mother has a connection to the milk you get from her bosom. The other word ("anya") simply means that somebody has a mother but this term is very formal and has no special content of sentiment so one uses this term in every official form requiring the name of your parent. In fact my mother tried to kill me, terrorised by the economical pressure of the regime and when it was not successful she didn't give me suck, so I was neither able to enjoy her milk nor her love.

Later when I was two years old I was found by a very nice young lady who lifted me up to her heart from under the kitchen table. She bought me new clothes, shoes, brought me to the opera-house for performances (since she was a ballet-dancer) and to the photographer since she was proud of "her" nice godson ... my relatives told me that I had usually called her with this word: "mother" (edesanya).

My biological mother could not love me although I was begging or dancing for her approval and acceptance. I studied well, become a well-known writer by publishing several books, carried out scientific research and won academic honours but everything seemed to be in vain since I was not able to win her love. In my twenties I published a book of poems and one of these works reflects on my life story using the ancient Greek myth of Penelope. In this poem you can analyse the confused bonding of an abortion-survivor with his parent or with the abuser of her child.

PENELOPE, MY MOTHER

you sit on the stigma of silence
with averted eyes
you would draw my face
onto your withered lap
spin it over weave it through
with sea-blue veins
with scarlet reed
spin me over weave me through
with snake
with strand of hair
unravel me by night
give birth to me by day
only kill me by night

you would piece together my bones
a stripped-down image
for the walls of your palace
bind my skin and gut
as strings onto your harp

is it an axe that I am
propped up in a corner
is it a prince
sewn inside a frog's skin

(Translated by Eva Kovacs-Hicks, Toronto)

It took 50 years of pain and sorrow to overcome the situation of a deeply damaged (unborn) child and that of a post-abortive mother ... I always tried to love my mother ... meanwhile I realized that I hated those foods (cheese, beer, etc) which she liked whilst, on the contrary, I liked the kind of women who have black hair and eyes, slight face which reminded me of my god-mother. So many times I asked myself: where is my mother, how can I love her?

Before her death the Lord gave me the answer by His merciful forgiveness. After so many years of struggling, begging and dancing for her love I finally was able to reconcile with her before her death. It happened by not accepting but rather understanding some of the elements of the kind of "internal" terrorism which pushed and pressured her to kill me. And finally I am going to die too and I badly need this forgiveness of the Lord for my own sins as well.

There is a picture in my bedroom above my bed. This photo was taken by the sculpture of the Pieta carved by Michelangelo in the middle of 16th century. The picture illustrates the Blessed Virgin who is a Patron Saint of Hungary and now she is perhaps my mother and hope and trust as well.

Against the civilisation of death I am now working for the culture of life full time. From the special grace offered me by Almighty God, the Creator, I have a large family ... The smiles of my children and wife are my strongest weapon in doing my duty to protect life! Thanks to the Lord!

Coming to Your Home Soon: New Year's Resolutions

JB_CommentaryPhoto
As we end another year and think about the possibilities for this new year to come, we must all contemplate what is truly important in the eyes of our Lord. Money and worldly possessions are just things-false gods that lead us astray. We must not continue to repeat the mistakes of the past 38 years. Let us pray that this 39th year will be the year of societal recognition of intrinsic human rights instead of abortion politics as usual. Read Judie Brown's commentary today (rerun from Tuesday) for insight into how to begin the new year with hope, faith, and action so that this coming year is one filled with respect and love for each and every person-born and preborn.

Time in the womb is obviously important for the development of the fetal brain. But pregnancy is also a time for changes in Mom's brain - changes that may prepare women to become better mothers. In fact, recent research is revealing that fetuses have more effect on their mothers than previously realized.

In Brazil abortion is not part of the cultural framework, and abortion laws are very restrictive in the country. As a result when children are born with abnormalities, even very extreme abnormalities, we have women and families who warmly welcome these new lives without hesitation. It's inspiring really. Welcome to the world conjoined twins Emanoel and Jesus.

Our lesson for today comes from the Gospel according to Luke. No, no, not the manger, the shepherds, the wise men, any of that stuff, but the other birth: "But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John."

Facebook Wreaks Havoc on One-Third of Marriages in the U.K.

Media_httpzapp5static_hgrdn

Husbands and wives in the United Kingdom headed for divorce are increasingly citing Facebook in their petitions, according to a survey from Divorce-Online, a website that focuses on divorce in the U.K.

The survey, released this week, revealed that 33 percent of divorce petitions in the country contained the word Facebook. That's a significant increase over that last time the site performed the survey in 2009. At that time, Facebook was mentioned in 20 percent of the petitions sampled by the researchers.

While Facebook is being combed for signs of infidelity by divorce attorneys, they're also looking for disparaging remarks made by spouses about each other after they've separated and are embroiled in litigation, according to the website. It found the most common reasons for citing Facebook in a divorce petition to be:

Inappropriate messages to members of the opposite sex.
Separated spouses posting nasty comments about each other.
Facebook friends reporting spouse’s behavior.
