Notre Dame Awards Grants for Pro-Abortion, Pro-Gay Marriage Internships  |  The Cardinal Newman Society has discovered that a grant program at the University of Notre Dame has paid expenses for students interning at organizations that advocate abortion rights and same-sex marriage.  Notre Dame's gender studies program website identifies grant recipients who worked at the Minnesota Women's Consortium in 2010, the New England chapter of the Anti-Defamation League and the Resource Center Dallas in 2009, and the National Organization for Women in 2008.  Read more...

Connecticut Governor at Center of Commencement Scandal
Saint Joseph College in Connecticut has announced that it intends to honor pro-abortion rights/pro-same-sex marriage Governor Dannel P. Malloy with an honorary degree at the college's commencement ceremony this May.  The White House has reportedly thanked Malloy for speaking out publicly in favor of the HHS contraceptive mandate.  Read more...

An "Educational" Drag Show at Catholic College
The University of San Diego is promoting on its website what it's calling "a series of educational events" that includes a transgender workshop and a drag show.  The release from the university said that the events are being sponsored by the student organization PRIDE which is described as "an alliance at the University of San Diego for gay, lesbian, bisexual,  transgendered queer and questioning students and their supporters."  Read more...

Awesome Story: Cardinal Burke Receives Two Thomas More Students into Church  |  Last week in the Vatican's Church of Saint Anne, Catholic News Agency reported, two students studying in Rome with The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts were joyfully received by Cardinal Raymond Burke into the Catholic Church.  The Thomas More College Rome program is a semester long course in humanities, theology and Latin as well as the art and architecture of the Eternal City.  Read more...

'Powerful Weapon to Counter Evil' in Rosary, Says Capuchin at Franciscan U.  |  Franciscan University of Steubenville brought Fr. Andrew Apostoli, CFR to campus on March 21 for a riveting installment of the University's Distinguished Speakers Series.  Fr. Apostoli lectured about the 1917 apparitions at Fatima, Portugal, and the import of their message today, especially the power of Marian devotions.  Read more...

At Santa Clara: Transgender Legal Director of Lesbian Rights Center  |  Santa Clara University, a Jesuit institution in California, is set to host a conference on race, sexuality, and social justice which will reportedly feature as a speaker the transgender legal director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, a pro-same-sex marriage organization.  Among the panelists at the day long conference will be Shannon Price Minter, the current legal director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights.  Read more...

Voice of the Faithful Holds Conference on Catholic Campus
The Center for Catholic Studies at Fairfield University recently hosted the 10th Annual Voice of the Faithful Conference called "Confronting Power and Sex in the Catholic Church".  The lead speaker was the controversial Australian Bishop Geoffrey Robinson.  Bishop Robinson has been on a tour across America and it was reported last week in the National Catholic Reporter that he "urges change in Church teaching concerning all sexual relationships."  Read more...

A Shocking Lineup of Pro-Abortion Rights Pols at Catholic College Event  |  Sometimes a Catholic college will invite or honor a single pro-abortion rights politician and that is a scandal. Alumni Petition Opposes Gonzaga University Honors to Archbishop Desmond Tutu  |  As The Cardinal Newman Society reported, Gonzaga University has announced that pro-abortion rights, pro-same-sex marriage, and pro-contraception Archbishop Desmond Tutu is scheduled to deliver the 2012 commencement address and receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.  A group of alumni are now sponsoring a petition requesting that Gonzaga University President Dr. Thayne McCulloh withdraw the invitation.  Read more...

Gonzaga Looks at Its Own Catholic Identity
The student newspaper at Gonzaga University ran a piece recently on the university's Catholic identity that should serve as a wake-up call to the Jesuit university.  One nursing student, who reportedly entered Gonzaga as a believer and will be graduating as an atheist, said she believes that Gonzaga overemphasizes Catholicism.  Read more...

Student Group Passes out Condoms on Catholic Campus
On some Catholic college campuses, student groups will situate themselves just off campus and distribute condoms to other students. But a student association at an Ottawa Catholic university is distributing condoms at their office despite a request by university administration and complaints by numerous students on campus, according to news reports.  Read more...

'New Evangelization' Pontifical Council Chief Speaks on Renewing Catholic Identity  |  The Arlington Catholic Herald is reporting that the head of the newly created Pontifical Council for New Evangelization spoke directly of the need for a renewed Catholic identity and commitment to explaining the faith during his visit to Catholic Distance University (CDU) last week.  Read more...

Prayers Requested for Repose of Thomas Aquinas College Tutor  |  Thomas Aquinas College is mourning the loss of Dr. Michael J. Paietta, tutor and alumnus, who died on Sunday, March 25.  According to the College, Dr. Paietta received last rites, including absolution and an apostolic blessing, from the campus chaplain before passing.  Please join us in praying for the repose of his soul.  Read more...

'Law of Life' Summit and National Mass Remember Terri Schiavo at Ave Maria  |  On March 30, Ave Maria University in Florida hosted the seventh annual National Mass for "Terri's Day" to commemorate Terri Schiavo's Death.  Ave Maria Law School hosted the "Law of Life" summit, also last Friday, bringing together pro-life leaders and law students.  According to LawLife.org, attendees at the summit were to be: "[C]reating measurable and achievable pro-life objectives, with the long-term mission of overturning Roe v. Priest Cites "Wretched History" of the Papacy for Wrongly Resisting Secular Culture  |  In response to a story about a number of Dutch priests, deacons, politicians and intellectuals calling for reforms including ordination of women and married people in the Church, Fr. Anthony Ruff OSB, Associate Professor of Theology at Saint John's University in Minnesota, wrote a piece and held a discussion on his blog Pray Tell. He cites the "wretched history" of the papacy in wrongly resisting secular culture and says nobody knows what the Church will teach in a hundred years concerning women's ordination or same-sex unions.  Read more...

A retreat sponsored by a gay ministry group that was scheduled to be held at the Saint John's Abbey Guesthouse on the campus of the College of Saint Benedict/St. John's University in Minnesota has been canceled, Fr. Bob Pierson OSB has told The Cardinal Newman Society.  Read more...

Pro-Abortion Rights Actress Raises Funds for Pro-Contraception Charity on Catholic Campus  |  Actress and pro-abortion rights activist Maria Bello returned to her alma mater Villanova University to raise funds for her Haitian charity — a medical clinic which among other things doles out contraceptives.  Villanova's Center for Peace & Justice Education arranged that ticket sales from the event would go towards Bello's charity.  Read more...

Benedictine College Dean Digs to the 'Root of Religious Liberty'  |  Getting to the bottom of modern notions about the separation of Church and State and the implications for religious freedom is an urgent task, according to the organizers of the panel discussion "At the Root of Religious Liberty."  Hosted by the Crossroads Cultural Center, the panel took place in New York City and featured Dr. Kimberly Shankman, dean of Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.  Read more...

Magdalen Rallies in Support of Religious Freedom
Some of the most vocal opponents of the Obama administration's HHS mandate have been Catholic colleges and universities.  And rightly so, after all, as Patrick J.
