Gingrich Restates Pro-Life Views, Says Life Begins at Conception
After making headlines nationwide with curious comments in an interview in which many observers say he indicated he believes human life begins at implantation, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has restated his pro-life views.
In a new statement the Gingrich campaign sent to LifeNews.com over the weekend, the former House Speaker says repeatedly that he believes life begins at conception, that he is pro-life and that he would implement a pro-life agenda immediately after being sown in as president if he becomes the GOP nominee and defeats pro-abortion President Barack Obama.
As I have stated many times throughout the course of my public life, I believe that human life begins at conception, Gingrich said in the statement. I believe that every unborn life is precious, no matter how conceived. I also believe that we should work for the day when there will be no abortions for any reason, and that every unborn child will be welcomed into life and protected by law.
That is why I have supported, and will continue to support, pro-life legislation that not only limits, but also reduces, the total number of abortions, with a view to the eventual legal protection of all unborn human life, Gingrich continued.

Herman Cain Suspends Republican Presidential Campaign
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain announced today that he is withdrawing from the race for the GOP nomination to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama.
Cain has been dogged in recent weeks by allegations from several women that he had inappropriate relationships with them and he disclosed that he had paid for one woman s expenses for some time without his knowledge. The developments and negative publicity cost Cain considerable support with Republican voters and deprived him of the front-runner status he build up during the Fall months.
Recent polls in Iowa, for example, had Cain dropping from leading the race with 25-30 percent of the vote to coming in at 8 percent under double digits and placing him firmly in the second-tier of the race.
As of today, with alot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign, he said, citing false allegations against him and the pain and hurt is has caused his family. We had to come to this conclusion, that it would be best to suspend this campaign, Cain added about the negative impact recent weeks events have had on his campaign fundraising.

China Forced Abortion Opponent Chen Guangcheng Reported Alive
After initial reports showed Chan Guangcheng, a prominent human rights activist who had led the fight against forced abortions under the one-child policy in China, may have been killed now new reports show he may still be alive.
LifeNews reported in October that Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women s Rights Without Frontiers, and Bob Fu, President of the China Aid Association both human rights groups that closely monitor the one-child policy in China has received reports from local contacts saying Chen had been killed.
According to Radio Free Asia, Chinese authorities detained a group of at least nine human rights activists trying to visit Chen. Many members of the group were cut off from communication and, according to a report by Canyu, Shandong authorities shot at these activists. Voice of America reports that villagers told it Chen is dead already, but the media outlet was still trying to verify the claim.
Solid information is hard to come by due to the fact that Chen has been confined to house arrest in his village since his release from prison after serving a four-year term on trumped up charges local population control officials manufactured after he exposed a brutal campaign of forced abortions and sterilizations in the city of Linyi.

Pro-Life Groups Oppose Caitlin Halligan DC Court Nomination
President Barack Obama is attempting to pack the courts with yet another pro-abortion activist, this time wanting to replace Supreme Court Justice John Roberts on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals with Caitlin Halligan.
Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council says Halligan should face strong opposition from pro-life members of the Senate when, tomorrow, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid brings her nomination to the Senate floor.
Like so many others, Halligan is an attractive candidate to the Left because she brings to the table an extensive resume of radicalism, Perkins says.
As Solicitor General, Halligan sided with the National Organization for Women in a brief that tried to slam pro-life protestors with extortion and racketeering charges under a twisted interpretation of the Hobbs Act, he explains. Their claim was so outside the mainstream that the U.S. Supreme Court threw it out in an 8-1 decision.

Hearing to Focus on Sex-Selection, Race-Based Abortion Ban
A congressional panel will hold a hearing tomorrow on legislation that would ban abortions in the United States if they are done because the unborn child is a certain sex or race.
The bill highlights a problem that most people know plagues Asian nations like China and India but studies have shown the practice of sex-selection and race-based abortions has come to the United States as well.
Tomorrow the House Judiciary Committee Constitution Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican who is the sponsor of the abortion ban, will hold a hearing on the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA). The measure, H.R. 3541, is also called the Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act.
Witnesses on the panel include Steve Aden, a pro-life attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, Edwin Black of the Feature Group, Miriam Yeung of the National Asian Pacific American Women s Forum and Steve Mosher of the Population Research Institute, who is considered one of the foremost experts on the one-child policy in China.

Two Thousand Pro-Life People Pray at Carhart Abortion Biz
Nearly 2,000 pro-life people turned out for a prayer event and rally at the abortion facility where late-term abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart works in Germantown, Maryland outside the nation s capital.
The pro-life advocates crowded the sidewalks this morning around Germantown Reproductive Health Services to mark one year since Carhart was hired there after pro-life legislation in Nebraska forced him to stop most of his abortion practice there. Participants displayed 720 crosses to memorialize the estimated 720 babies who have been killed by abortion since Carhart s arrival.
Since Carhart s arrival in Maryland, the people in that state have risen up and said no to his late-term abortion business, said Operation Rescue president Troy Newman, one of the organizers. Members of the faith community have mobilized, a pregnancy referral center has opened directly across the parking lot from the abortion clinics, and sidewalk counselors are dissuading women from abortions on a regular basis, saving countless lives. We are proud to serve a supporting role in this amazing work.

Dolly Scientist Says Abandon Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Ian Wilmut, the scientist who achieved international notoriety for cloning the sheep Dolly, is now urging his fellow scientists and researchers to abandon embryonic stem cell research.
His comments at a conference follow on the major news that Geron, a cloning company the Obama administration funded to undertake the first human clinical trials involving embryonic-like stem cells, abruptly canceled the trials and got out of the embryonic stem cell research business.
Wilmut spoke to researchers at a late November event in California and said that embryonic stem cells are not likely going to show promise because they lead to the development of tumors after injected into animals in studies and that scientists should focus their energies on non-embryonic stem cell research. Wilmut is particularly impressed by direct programming, a process that takes adult stem cells and reverts them to an embryonic-like state without purposefully creating and destroying human embryos.

Pregnancy Begins at Conception/Fertilization, Not Implantation
OP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has come under fire for his comment that human life begins at implantation, not fertilization. As a scientific matter, he s plainly wrong. Perhaps he s been confused by a separate debate: when pregnancy begins. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/05/pregnancy-begins-at-conceptionfertilization-not-implantation/

Like Mitt Romney, Abby Johnson, People Can Change on Abortion
There has been much debate recently on the question of whether Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is sincerely pro-life. Romney recently interviewed with Brett Baier of Fox News. When questioned about changing his positions on various issues he denied the accusations, except concerning the issue of abortion. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/05/like-mitt-romney-abby-johnson-people-can-change-on-abortion/
Massachusetts Medical Society Opposes Assisted Suicide
As Massachusetts voters consider the possibility of going to the polls to vote for a measure that would make the state the third to legalize assisted suicide, the Massachusetts Medical Society s House of Delegates voted to retain its position against it. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/05/massachusetts-medical-society-opposes-assisted-suicide/
Media Bias Continues on Abortion-Breast Cancer Link Studies
Which of the following is likely to be motivated by ideological bias: Reports on independent medical studies that show a link between a commonly chosen medical procedure and rates of a certain type of cancer, or news stories that ignore the latest scientific evidence and rely on a single, controversial, and now-debunked report to make the case in favor that the medical procedure. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/05/media-bias-continues-on-abortion-breast-cancer-link-studies/
Would Planned Parenthood Obey Sex-Selection Abortion Ban?
The Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act reintroduced recently to the U.S. Congress by Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) is a step in the right direction. But it is only a step. The Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, called PRENDA for short, would punish medical providers that perform abortions or accept funds for abortions when the reason for the abortion is the gender or race of the fetus. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/05/would-planned-parenthood-obey-sex-selection-abortion-ban/
