Dear Friends for Life, his week, In India, there is a strong cultural preference for male children. Unlike China, India has no government organization limiting the number of children a family can have, but the deep-rooted cultural preference for sons results in an extreme aversion to daughters. This is only made worse by the fact that daughters require a sizable financial dowry in order to marry so they are seen as a drain on a family's wealth. As a result, UNICEF estimates that about five million female fetuses are aborted every year and girls under the age of five have 75% higher mortality rates than young boys. No girl should be killed simply because of her gender. Please sign and share this petition to help us build awareness and save girls in India. This Christmas lets give a gift to the innocent girls of India by signing this petition. Thank you.
God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

ITEM #1: Thai Catholics, the birth of Christ overcomes problems and difficulties
This is the message delivered by Fr. Daniele Mazza, a PIME missionary, for the third Sunday of Advent. The priest tells the story of a terminally ill patient, who thanked God that his wife and daughter "are by my side." The reference to the letter of St. Paul to the Philippians, which calls for "the blessings of God."

ITEM #2: Missionaries of Mother Teresa: Christmas with HIV sufferers
Our work here in Shanti Bavan within the compound of Shanti Dan with men and children suffering from HIV/AIDS is a miracle of God's love working through our brokenness and weakness. Throughout the year our home was full to its capacity. Our life and work with them is an inner flowering, inner freedom, inner bliss, a benediction. Let your Christmas celebration be an inner flowering, inner freedom and inner blessing to you, to your family and to your community and to all whom you meet in the New Year. Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a joyful New Year.

ITEM #3: Taipei, future managers share Christmas with the poorest
Many Christmas initiatives: marches, marathons, works of charity. Students of economics and business decide to live the festive season with the homeless and those without family. It is not enough - and it is not just - to only live for profit at the expense of others. A banking foundation sponsors events, but anonymously to avoid publicity.

ITEM #4: Four potential downsides to selling oral contraception over the counter
Comment: Of course, USAToday is liberal on virtually every issue but it at least does mention a few of the physical problems with these powerful hormone pills. I do believe that if people knew the true facts about artificial birth control, chastity and NFP, most people would make the logical choice. One tremendous help would be homilies and other education through the churches. As Cardinal Dolan himself recently noted, the Church pretty much dropped the ball on the issue from the beginning and especially with Humanae Vitae. -Nancy Valko, RN

ITEM #5: Dehydrating Disabled Babies in UK Hospitals
The Liverpool Care Pathway has become a checklist for killing. This is what happens when a country allows bureaucrats to control healthcare. (Yes, I am issuing an unsubtle warning about Obamacare.) The Pathway was designed by health bureaucrats to fix a real problem: Too many patients were being allowed to die in pain in UK [...]
****************************************
ITEM #6: "Savior Siblings" Start Us Down Harrowing Ethical Path
A baby was born in France because his parents wanted to use his umbilical cord stem cells to treat the genetic disease of their existing children.
****************************************
ITEM #7 Transhumanism's Mission to Create Ubermenchen Children is Coercive
Reason magazine's science writer, Ron Bailey, has long been in the thrall of transhumanism. (We debated once at CUNY). He has swallowed the immortality project without even chewing and has baptized himself in the scientism neo-faith that The Singularity will usher in a new era of super post humans.
****************************************
ITEM #8: Aging Is Not a Disease
The Lutheran theologian and bioethicist Gilbert Meilaender - who served on the President's Council on Bioethics - has a long and provocative article out in the current First Things. Contrary to the transhumanists and immortalitists such as Aubrey de Gray, Meilaender says that aging is not a disease. It's a long article, that deals with many of the mortality issues... Additional Article: "Thinking About Aging" -It is right to want to live longer, if we don't want life simply for its own sake.

ITEM #9: Three ways to kick porn out of your life
Note: This is Part 3 of a five-part series on pornography. Part I: My porn addiction
Part II: Porn: devil or an angel?
Part III: Three ways to kick porn out of your life.
****************************************
ITEM #10: PAKISTAN: The people live in terror not knowing whether they will survive to see another day
Daily life in Pakistan is today marred by terrorist attacks that range from bombings to shootings and execution-style killings. All these are taking place in an environment where the law enforcement agencies are helpless to intervene. Little in the way of investigation takes place and even when the identities of the perpetrators are known no arrests are made.
****************************************
ITEM #11: Embryos for Sale: When You Want Them, How You Want Them, or Your Money Back
Make no mistake, this is commodification. These are not donated embryos. Rather, they are embryos created from donors hand-selected by California Conceptions. It is one step removed from a mail order catalog. The only difference is that the product being sold is nascent human life.
****************************************ITEM #12: CDC Reports of Abortion Deaths Double: Reasearch Shows Many Deaths Go Uncounted
The real number of deaths is, without a doubt, much higher. Researchers looking at death records for women in the years following pregnancy in the U.S., Finland and, most recently, Denmark, found higher rates of death among women who had abortions compared to women who gave birth. And researchers and others have repeatedly reported serious flaws with how abortion deaths are counted in the U.S.
