Does Planned Parenthood Secretly Support the Plan B Decision?
When the Obama administration announced its decision Wednesday to not allow teenage girls to purchase the Plan B morning after pill over the counter without a doctor s prescription, Planned Parenthood was slow to respond.
The abortion business was one of the last pro-abortion groups to put out a public statement condemning the decision and, unlike it s fellow pro-abortion organizations, it did not send out messages on Twitter in the lead-up to the decision asking for the Obama administration to approve the over the counter status.
Planned Parenthood eventually responded with a fairly boilerplate press release and, yesterday, its president Cecile Richards released a letter demanding a meeting with pro-abortion HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who was a close ally of Planned Parenthood s affiliate during her time as governor of the Midwestern state.
Amanda Marcotte, a noted pro-abortion blogger, highlighted what initially appeared to be surprise by most pro-abortion activists, saying, this victory for women s health [was] snatched away at the last minute by Sebelius, sending shocks of confusion and betrayal through the pro-choice community, who always thought of Sebelius as a member in good standing.
But some pro-life advocates are questioning whether Planned Parenthood is really all that upset at the decision, saying it stands to make millions financially from selling the morning after pill at its clinics at a marked up cost. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/09/does-planned-parenthood-secretly-support-the-plan-b-decision/
Powerful Pro-Life Film Features Story of Abortion Survivor
A powerful new pro-life film is capturing the attention of Americans because it features the story of Melissa Ohden, a woman who survived a failed saline abortion attempt on her life and who is now a nationally-recognized speaker.
Over 1.2 million children lose their lives to abortion every year in the United States alone. Over 53 million children have lost their lives to abortion in the United States since the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Many know the sad reality of these statistics, but most don t know the amazing reality that sometimes children survive failed abortions and exist in our world today. Melissa Ohden, a 34-year-old international pro-life speaker and advocate, wife and mother, is one such survivor.
Melissa s powerful story of surviving a failed saline infusion abortion in 1977, of overcoming the concerns regarding her ability to survive past infancy and go on to lead a normal life, of being adopted into a loving family that supported her in her search for her biological family and in her struggle to face the reality of her life as an abortion survivor to ultimately become a voice for the unborn, is featured in the newly released pro-life documentary, A Voice for Life. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/09/powerful-pro-life-film-features-story-of-abortion-survivor/
Santorum: GOP Should Not Surrender on Pro-Life Issues
As the socially conservative voters in Iowa head to the polls next month to officially start the 2012 Republican presidential primary election, GOP candidate Rick Santorum says the party should not surrender on pro-life issues.
Santorum has been seen by some pro-life advocates as the standard bearer for pro-life and social conservative issues in the Republican election and the former Pennsylvania senator has launched a new fundraising effort tied to his recent call for not backing down on pressing pro-life themes.
Beginning December 14, we ll be kicking off our biggest moneybomb to date. With less than a month to go to the Iowa caucuses, the No Surrender Moneybomb will be dedicated to raising $250,000 so that I have the crucial resources to win the Iowa caucuses, Santorum said in a new email to his supporters.
Why No Surrender?
Because a number of Republican leaders have suggested that the best way to win back the White House is to call a truce on talking about social issues. Issues like abortion, marriage, school prayer, and immigration. In my book that s not a truce it s a surrender, Santorum continued. But not on my watch. The day we stop fighting for the unborn child, or fighting to protect the sanctity of marriage, expel God from the public square, or decide we will no longer enforce the laws of our land, is the day we surrender all our founding fathers created. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/09/santorum-gop-should-not-surrender-on-pro-life-issues/
Denying Plan B Drug to Teenagers Protects Girls Health
The recent overruling of the FDA decision to sell Plan B over the counter (OTC) to children as young as eleven years of age has engendered no small amount of outrage by proponents of the FDA plan, and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has come in for severe criticism from women s health and advocacy groups. Setting aside for a moment the undercurrent of abortion and the distrust between warring parties over the issue, this decision by Secretary Sebelius is a victory for the very children the FDA purports to serve and protect.
According to FDA labeling on Plan B:
Ectopic pregnancies account for approximately 2% of all reported pregnancies. Up to 10% of pregnancies reported in clinical studies of routine use of progestin-only contraceptives are ectopic.
That represents a five-fold increase in the incidence of a potentially fatal side effect of the drug s usage in those taking the drug. The very issue proponents of OTC Plan B sale cite for selling to young adolescents, their fear of parental knowledge and involvement in their sex lives, heightens the risk of fatality in the very young. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/09/denying-plan-b-drug-to-teenagers-protects-girls-health/
They re Pro-Choice on Abortion, Unless You Won t Perform One
I used to think we were a nation committed to freedom of conscience. Heck, I used to think we had a body of law effectively defending that freedom. After the events of the past few months, I m not so sure. Consider:
- The California Department of Managed Health Care has insisted that Catholic health care systems in the state may not provide health coverage to their employees unless they include abortion. When the systems invoked federal conscience laws forbidding such coercion, state officials basically laughed and said those laws would never be enforced against them.
- Twelve nurses have sued a state-run medical center in New Jersey that tried to force them to assist in abortions against their moral and religious convictions. The hospital has replied that the nurses don t even have a right to sue in court, because federal conscience laws on abortion don t explicitly give them that right. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/09/theyre-pro-choice-on-abortion-unless-you-wont-perform-one/
Santorum: Newt Gingrich Wasn t a Strong Pro-Life Leader
Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Friday that he doesn t recall former Speaker Newt Gingrich leading the battle on pro-life issues during the time to two lawmakers served together in the House.
Before Santorum became a Pennsylvania senator and before Gingrich became the widely-recognized House Speaker, the two were Republican members of the House. During a conference call with bloggers on Friday afternoon, he told LifeNews that he doesn t recall Gingrich as a strong pro-life leader during that time.
Although Gingrich compiled a 98% pro-life voting record, Santorum said he was not a pro-life warrior, that was not his gig.
He was someone who was interested in reducing taxes and Reaganomics but he was never someone who would go to the well as a member and fight the wars on the pro-life front, Santorum said. As a leader, one of the things he would stress is to work on issues with broad support and bipartisan support. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/09/santorum-newt-gingrich-wasnt-a-strong-pro-life-leader/
Fetal Cells Cross Placenta, Stay With Pregnant Mom for Life
You will always be a part of me, might be a mother s teary farewell when her child goes off to college, but research is showing it s quite literally true.
Kathy Ostrowski reports in the Kansans for Life blog on a recent National Public Radio Morning Edition program featuring Science editor Robert Krulwich and his explosive report about fetomaternal microchimerism.
According to Krulwich there is increasing evidence that when a woman has a baby, she gets not just a son or daughter, [but] an army of protective cells gifts from her children that will stay inside her and defend her for the rest of her life.

Ethical Stem Cell Research Shows Most Promise for Patients
According to data from the World Health Organization, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer globally, resulting in an estimated 17.3 million deaths in 2008 alone (1). Such a mind-boggling number may make it difficult to appreciate the fact that each death means the loss of a human person, and a painful vacuum left in the lives of loved ones. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/09/ethical-stem-cell-research-shows-most-promise-for-patients/

British Doctors Mislead Women on Abortion-Mental Health Link
Medical groups in England are coming under fire from pro-life advocates for dismissing proven research showing abortion increases mental health risks for women who have them. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/09/british-doctors-mislead-women-on-abortion-mental-health-link/
