NEW YORK, May 15, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- International Day of the Family - Elected Legislative representatives from throughout the world are launching the "Declaration on the Rights of the Family," re-affirming the rights of the family including citations to specific international law that binds State Parties.

Today the world celebrate the international day of the family, established in the context of the United Nations International year of the family, twenty years ago.

A group of parliamentarians from diverse parts of the world, including representatives from Argentina, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain, U.S.A., as well as others, assisted by international law experts, coordinated by Senator Jim Walsh from Ireland, has launched a Declaration that reaffirms the bedrock of human rights on the family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, existing in international law.

They agreed that what was needed was a clear re-affirmation of the rights of the family including citations to specific international law that binds State Parties. In this way, during the 2014 U.N. Year of the Family the international community would be reminded of their international legal obligations to the family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, as well as the related rights of parents and rights of the child, and elderly.

"Each legislative representative throughout the world is now invited to sign the Declaration and to invite colleagues to do likewise for use at the domestic and international level. Efforts would be made to continuously cite the document, on various agenda items, in publications on domestic, regional and international levels and so forth, all in an effort to reaffirm existing international law," said Senator Jim Walsh.

At the occasion of the International Day of the Family and beyond, Representatives invited each one to promote this initiative and contact their elected legislative representatives in order to get them involved and join this initiative. "The committee is grateful for being posted on each successful citation of the Declaration on the Family (Twitter #familyrights2014) and will share it to the community, at the end of this year, at the occasion of the celebration of the United Nations' twentieth anniversary of the international year of the Family."

Let's share and send our congratulations and good wishes to all elected representatives of goodwill!
