Single, no money for rent, two little boys at home

Sacramento pro-lifers pitch in to help mother who chose life for her baby despite hardships

(The following comes to California Catholic Daily from veteran Sacramento pro-lifer Wynette Sills.)

Nov. 23

Yesterday afternoon I received a call from Kizzy. She was having contractions and heading to the hospital. I offered to pick up her mom so that she could be present for her grandson's birth, yet baby Jahsante arrived so quickly -- within about 30 minutes after arriving at the hospital -- that he was already born by the time we got there.

Kizzy is a beautiful mom who we met outside the Feminist Women's Health Center on Wright Street in Sacramento last spring as she was coming for an abortion. She had just received a 3-Day Eviction Notice on her apartment door, had no money to pay the rent, and already had two little boys at home as a single mom. She felt like she had no hope and abortion was her only option.

As she entered the abortion business, she paused briefly as I asked her, "Do you know anyone who is pregnant? We are here to help." Her response was, "That would be me."

I gave her helpful resource information and even had the chance to drive her to the Sacramento Life Center. She changed her mind and chose life for her baby -- and we have been a part of her family ever since!

The St. Vincent de Paul ministry immediately made a home-visit and helped Kizzy with rent, also providing her with furniture and groceries. Nearby Divine Mercy parish provided the family with a much-needed car, on loan from a priest who was here from Nigeria, but he had to quickly return to his home country due to the unrest, violence and Christian persecution. The car he left behind is being put to great use and such a blessing to this little family.

Devonne Keevers and her very loving Showers on Wheels ministry helped Kizzy with a huge Baby Shower, car seat, and lots of darling baby clothes. The Gabriel Project of St. Mel's Parish helped with a baby crib/play pen/changing table and much more. The Project Linus group and many of you lovingly made baby blankets.

Yesterday, we filled her refrigerator with an abundance of Thanksgiving groceries so that, when she gets home from the hospital, her family can really celebrate God's many blessings!

If you would like to help this family with Christmas gifts, please let me know. Gift cards to Wal-Mart, Target, and nearby Bel Air grocery store are especially useful. Contact Wynette at (916) 955-1577.
