Supreme Court Rules Obama Admin Can’t Make Hobby Lobby Obey Pro-Abortion HHS Mandate The Supreme Court ruled today that the Christian-run Hobby Lobby doesn’t have to obey the HHS mandate that is a part of Obamacare that requires businesses to pay for abortion causing drugs in their employee health care plans.
The Obama administration was attempting to make Hobby Lobby and thousands of pro-life businesses and organizations comply with the HHS mandate that compels religious companies to pay for birth control and abortion-causing drugs for their employees. http://www.lifenews.com/2014/06/30/supreme-court-rules-obama-admin-cant-make-hobby-lobby-obey-pro-abortion-hhs-mandate/
Obama Wants to Force Americans to Pay for Abortion-Causing Drugs Since He Can’t Force Hobby LobbySo just how is the Obama administration spinning the Supreme Court’s decision today that dealt it a devastating blow? Now that President Barcack Obama can’t force Hobby Lobby and other companies and businesses to pay for abortion-causing drugs, he’s wanting to force Americans to pay for birth control and very early drugs that may cause abortions.
The White House has quickly converted the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision into a campaign-trail wedge issue, by calling on Congress to continue providing abortion-related drugs to a small number of women who work for Catholic employers. http://www.lifenews.com/2014/06/30/obama-wants-to-force-americans-to-pay-for-abortion-causing-drugs-since-he-cant-force-hobby-lobby/
Hobby Lobby in Pictures: Americans Cheer and Thank God After SCOTUS Victory The Supreme Court gave the pro-life movement a huge victory today. It determined the Obama administration couldn’t force Hobby Lobby and any other company or business that doesn’t want to pay for abortion-causing drugs or birth control for its employees to obey the HHS mandate forcing it to do so.
Before and after the decision, pro-life advocates flooded the steps of the Supreme Court building with signs and pictures and led chants as the justices were preparing to hand down their decision. Afterwards, they cried tears of joy, cheered and prayed to thank God for the decision. http://www.lifenews.com/2014/06/30/hobby-lobby-in-pictures-americans-cheer-and-thank-god-after-scotus-victory/

Pro-Abortion Activists Threaten to Burn Down Hobby Lobby Stores After SCOTUS Ruling
’The Supreme Court has ruled on behalf of Hobby Lobby against ObamaCare mandating them to pay for at least four drugs they deem abortive which would violate their religious freedoms! According to experts, the 5 to 4 decision applies to “closely-held” corporations.
Following the ruling, Twitter filled up with treats to burn Hobby Lobby to the ground. WARNING: Strong language and violence. http://www.lifenews.com/2014/06/30/pro-abortion-activists-threaten-to-burn-down-hobby-lobby-stores-after-scotus-ruling/
EWTN Wins Big Pro-Life Victory Against HHS Mandate on Heels of Hobby Lobby DecisionOn the heels of the Supreme Court ruling today that the Christian-run business Hobby Lobby doesn’t have to obey the HHS mandate that is a part of Obamacare that requires businesses to pay for abortion causing drugs in their employee health care plans, EWTN has won a victory of its own.
The Catholic television network is asking the courts to stop the Obama administration from enforcing the mandate against it while its own lawsuit continues. http://www.lifenews.com/2014/06/30/ewtn-wins-big-pro-life-victory-against-hhs-mandate-on-heels-of-hobby-lobby-decision/
Bobby Jindal Punks Obama on Hobby Lobby: “He’s Googling ‘Can an Executive Order Override Supreme Court?’”Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana is already a pro-life rock star, but the governor may have one-upped himself with this excellent response to the Supreme Court decision today saying the Obama administration can’t force Hobby Lobby to obey the HHS mandate.
Jindal may have earned the prize for the best response to the decision. Well played Mr. Governor, well-played! http://www.lifenews.com/2014/06/30/gov-bobby-jindal-punks-obama-on-hobby-lobby-hes-googling-can-an-executive-order-override-supreme-court/
Kathleen Sebelius Totally Silent on Hobby Lobby Decision Bearing Her NameHours after the Supreme Court knocked down Obama’s contraception mandate with regard to Hobby Lobby and other small business owners, there seems to be silence from the architect of this mandate, former HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
The last post on her twitter is from June 9th – so far she has not tweeted anything about this today: http://www.lifenews.com/2014/06/30/kathleen-sebelius-totally-silent-on-hobby-lobby-decision-bearing-her-name/

News Alert: SCOTUS rules in Hobby Lobby case

Dear Defender of Life and Family,

This morning the United States Supreme Court ruled in the Hobby Lobby case, Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, that closely held for-profit corporations cannot be required to provide contraception coverage. The Court found that applying the HHS contraception mandate to closely held for-profit corporations violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Please read Human Life International's statement on the Court's decision below, which can also be found on our website here:

Hobby Lobby Case Underscores Deception on Contraception, When Life Begins

In a narrow 5-4 decision today concerning the HHS contraception mandate, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby that closely held for-profit corporations cannot be required to provide contraception coverage. The Court found that applying the HHS contraception mandate to closely held for-profit corporations violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

In reaction to today's decision, Human Life International President Father Shenan J. Boquet released the following statement:

"The full implications of this decision are not yet known, but this appears to be at least some good news in the fight for religious freedom.

"What many found deeply disturbing about this case was not only the assault on religious freedom, but the manipulation of scientific facts in order to support a radical political agenda promoting abortion.

"There's scientific consensus that when sperm meets egg and fertilization occurs, a new human life begins. Yet we see our own government and pro-abortion lobbyist groups like American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) play games with the words 'fertilization,' 'conception,' 'pregnancy,' and even 'abortion' to make it seem as though the drugs and devices in question in the Hobby Lobby case don't kill innocent human life-when it's scientific fact that they can, and do destroy new life in the womb.

"Not only does the HHS contraception/sterilization/abortifacient mandate seek to undermine our God-given freedom to practice our faith, the mandate furthers U.S. government support for the greatest human rights abuse in history, using taxpayer dollars to kill preborn human life.

"There's no doubt that legal action will continue on this mandate, and the many other troubling provisions of Obamacare. The American people must make clear to our elected representatives that we will not allow our religious liberty to be violated by our own government, especially in pursuit of an immoral agenda that furthers the erosion of human rights, and ends human lives."

Yours in the defense of life and family,

Supreme Court Rules Obama Admin Can't Make Hobby Lobby Obey Pro-Abortion HHS Mandate | LifeNews.com

The Supreme Court ruled today that the Christian-run Hobby Lobby doesn’t have to obey the HHS mandate that is a part of Obamacare that requires businesses to pay for abortion causing drugs in their employee health care plans.

The Obama administration was attempting to make Hobby Lobby and
thousands of pro-life businesses and organizations comply with the HHS
mandate that compels religious companies to pay for birth control and
abortion-causing drugs for their employees. However, the U.S. Supreme
Court today issued a favorable ruling in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.,
a landmark case addressing the Constitutionally guaranteed rights of
business owners to operate their family companies without violating
their deeply held religious convictions.

hobbylobby23Writing for the 5-4 majority, Justice Samuel Alito
handed down the decision for the high court, saying, “The Supreme Court
holds government can’t require closely held corporations with religious
owners to provide contraception coverage.”

“HHS’s contraception mandate substantially burdens the exercise of
religion,” the decision reads, adding that the “decision concerns only
the contraceptive mandate and should not be understood to mean that all
insurance mandates.”

Freezer burn and poison take care of nearly half of frozen embryos

main_embryoThe following comes from a June 18 story in Crisis magazine.
Karla and Jacob began dating in 2009 when they were 42 and 32 years old, respectively. After Karla was diagnosed with lymphoma, and “despite neither of them thinking the relationship had long-term prospects,” both agreed to have human embryos created from their gametes. These were frozen for later use because treatment would, unfortunately, destroy Karla’s fertility. Their relationship was short-lived, yet, Karla’s only chance of giving birth to her own genetic children remained the use of the frozen progeny resulting from this relationship.
Jacob objected and the two went to court. This May, the Illinois judge ruled that Karla can transfer the embryos in spite of Jacob’s objection to “becoming a parent.” (He is, of course, already a parent of these embryos—he doesn’t want to bear the responsibilities that would follow a live birth of one of his children). This sad case is emblematic of many of the pitfalls and ethical problems inherent in the practice of freezing embryonic human beings for in vitro fertilization.
Cryopreservation of embryos keeps them alive but development is arrested as they remain frozen in a state of suspended animation. Submerged in liquid nitrogen in a freezer, dubbed a “Concentration Can” by the great geneticist, Jerome LeJeune, cryopreservation exposes these innocents to a host of risks, offenses, and further manipulation. The techniques used to freeze embryos today involve immersion in a solution of cryoprotectant (think anti-freeze) that reduces the likelihood of lethal ice crystals being formed inside the cells. They remain frozen indefinitely, entirely beholden to the whims of parents, the clinic, or government regulation.
The most obvious offense to their human rights is that the process of freezing and thawing the embryos leads to the death of many. A recent study indicated that 46 percent will not survive the freezing and thawing process. The two primary causes of death? Formation of ice crystals (freezer burn) or cytotoxicity (poison) from the cryoprotectant. As the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority has summarized, “Not all embryos will survive freezing and eventual thawing when they come to be used.  Very occasionally no embryos will survive.” Many will lose one or two cells, with associated risks not fully understood. In short, the freezing and thawing process exposes them to serious risk of harm and death.
But even if the technology was perfected and no deaths would occur (an exceptionally unlikely scenario), these human beings are frozen against their will and not for their own good. Consent to such a procedure cannot be presumed because IVF and the freezing of embryos do not offer reasonable hope of success or great benefit for the embryo. They offer, rather, significant risks that are well above what might be reasonably considered normal. These risks are accepted because of a prior choice for IVF which is, itself, an irresponsible herculean intervention with overall embryo survival rates hovering around 5-20 percent….

Heroic News: “Death row attorneys sue on behalf of inmates over 'human experimentation'” plus 7 more

Attorneys for six death row prisoners in Arizona filed a lawsuit against state officials Thursday alleging “human experimentation” in executions.
American zoos prefer contraception over euthanasia to curb populations, prevent breeding, or preserve genetic qualities of a given species. Creatures as big as lions and hippos and as small as meerkats and mice take birth control—it's crushed up in their feed, injected into their veins, and implanted under their skins.
The contraception mandate will not be axed completely; the Supreme Court has the power to narrow the rule's reach.
The Supreme Court is poised to deliver its verdict in a case that weighs the religious rights of employers and the "right" of women to free, employer-funded birth control of their choice.
Yesterday morning, in a unanimous decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that struck down a Massachusetts “buffer zone” law, sidewalk counselor Eleanor McCullen won the right to speak up freely to women entering abortion centers in Massachusetts.

From CMMB: Your Weekly Reflection in Prayer 6/29/14

Weekly Prayer Reflection for Summer
You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
 Matthew 16:18
June 29, 2014
Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul
Dear Friends,
Instead of the normal Sunday Scriptural readings and prayers, this Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. This is unusual, and it points to the importance of these two saints, and indeed of all saints in the Christian tradition. Peter was the chief of the apostles, the leader of the early Church, and Paul took the gospel message to the nations, to the ends of the earth.
By celebrating these two saints with such solemnity, the Church is pointed to the importance of human cooperation, that almighty God looks to and depends upon human help and cooperation to achieve His goals and wishes for humanity.
One important aspect of God’s action in the world is that of healing. Here, too, God looks to human help and cooperation in the countless doctors, nurses, research scientists, and suppliers of medicines who bring medical help to those in need. Can we not look to the men and women who support and work with and for the Catholic Medical Mission Board as those who, like Saints Peter and Paul, cooperate in building God’s Kingdom? We, too, cooperate with the healing Spirit of God. We witness and make present God’s healing and compassionate hand in our world today.
Let us Pray for God’s Blessing:
May almighty God bless you, for He has made you steadfast in Saint Peter’s saving confession, and through it has set you on the solid rock of the Church’s faith.
Having instructed you by the tireless preaching of Saint Paul, may God teach you constantly by his example to win brothers and sisters for Christ.
Thus by the keys of Saint Peter and the words of Saint Paul, by the support of their intercession, may God bring us happily to that homeland that Peter attained on a cross and Paul be the blade of a sword. Amen.
