NORCROSS, Ga., March 18, 2014 /Christian Newswire/
-- Georgia Right to Life (GRTL) Co-Executive Director Gen Wilson today
praised the Georgia Legislature for approving a bill that prohibits
using taxpayer funds to pay for abortion services in Georgia.
"This
is a very comprehensive bill," Wilson said. "It prevents public monies
being spent on abortion in any of the health insurance plans under
Obamacare, or for state employees under their health plans."
It's
especially important because it does not include exceptions based on a
child's manner of conception. It does, however, include language that
protects the life of the mother.
Wilson said not including an
exception based on manner of conception extends a long history in
Georgia of working to protect all innocent human life.
"As a
woman, I am thankful that my tax dollars will not be used to fund
abortions," Wilson added. "And I know that thousands of other women are
as well."
The measure, sponsored by Representative Darlene
Taylor (R-Thomasville) and Senator Judson Hill (R-Marietta) now goes to
Governor Nathan Deal for his signature.
"I am deeply grateful
for Representative Taylor and Senator Hill for their courage in
supporting this long overdue measure," Wilson said. "Georgia is the
25th state to adopt a law dealing with taxpayer funding of abortion."
Wilson
added that, "Georgia is solidly pro-life, and the majority of
taxpayers don't support their money being used for the barbaric
practice of abortion."
The measure does not prevent anyone from
accessing abortion services; it just means they can't use public funds
to pay for them.
Georgia Right to Life promotes respect and
effective legal protection for all innocent human life from earliest
biological beginning through natural death. GRTL is one of a number of
organizations that have adopted Personhood as the most effective
pro-life strategy for the 21st century.
